Occupational Therapy - Holistic Health & Wellbeing

* Due to COVID-19, I now offer confidential video-call therapy sessions to B.C. residents.

Occupational Therapy (OT) helps people learn skills for the job of living and being in all environments!

OT is a holistic, client-centered practice that honours and empowers the individual and facilitates performance and satisfaction in daily activities. (Self-care, leisure, and productivity.) OT's consider the physical, social, cultural, mental, emotional and spiritual, internal, and external environments of their clients.

What is Spirituality?

A sense of connectedness to self, nature, others, higher power....it is different for every individual based on their own life experiences and influences. It encompasses personal beliefs, values, meaning, and purpose.

The Canadian Model of Occupational Performance and Engagement (CMOP-E) identifies spirituality as the core of the individual. OT's consider spirituality when addressing health, disability, disease, and functioning in daily life.

What is a Labyrinth?

A labyrinth is an ancient, all-inclusive, cross-cultural symbol that is found throughout the world. Walking this winding circular pathway promotes relaxation, insight, hope, peace, personal growth, transformation, and overall mental, emotional, physical & spiritual health and wellness. Unlike a maze that has many dead ends and can cause confusion and fear; Walking a labyrinth's single winding pathway is an activity that offers an opportunity to connect with self, others, nature and/or Higher power simply by putting one foot in front of the other.

"There are many ways to walk the Labyrinth, ways as unique as each individual who comes to walk."
Some use this tool as a walking meditation; a time for quieting the mind while moving the body and spirit. Some reflect on meaning and purpose, problem solve, make decisions, set goals, grieve, pray, feel feelings and identify needs, find their creative heart, dance or celebrate!

The Labyrinth is often considered a metaphor for life. The circles represent the human quest for unity, balance, and wholeness, the single winding path to the centre and back; twisting and turning as the journey.

Holly is a Veriditas Certified Labyrinth Facilitator.  She offers group workshops, 1:1 therapeutic labyrinth facilitation and labyrinth pilgrimages.  She speaks at international conferences. Holly also uses finger labyrinths with clients when mobility concerns or social distancing is a barrier to walking the path. Double finger labyrinths are a favourite tool when supporting concentration, connection, relaxation and learning.   Holly builds and designs labyrinths with individuals and communities to enhance environments and to support engagement in a deep connection with self, others, nature and the divine cycle of life.

What is EFT©?

Emotional Freedom Technique© developed by Gary Craig, uses a combination of Mind Body Medicine and Acupuncture Meridians.
• Longstanding fears, trauma, grief, anxiety, and addictions that get in the way of functioning day to day, can be managed or eliminated using this technique.
• Provides physical and emotional relief
• An empowering tool - as I can teach you to use the techniques yourself as part of your OT treatment plan!

EFT is found to be an “evidenced based” practice for anxiety, depression, phobias and PTSD.  It’s efficacy has been demonstrated for both psychological and physical symptoms. It is commonly known as “tapping”. www.emofree.com   Other resources include:, www.research.eftuniverse.com www.thetappingsolution.com

What is Reiki ?

The Usui system of Natural Healing was first shared in Japan in the 1800s. This gentle hands-on approach opens up blocked energy pathways that hold physical, emotional and spiritual pain/trauma. Reiki can decrease pain and promote: relaxation, energy flow, balance and healing for mind, body & spirit.

What are Therapeutic Sound tools?

Holly uses many therapeutic sound modalities to promote the relaxation response.  By engaging the parasympathetic nervous system with specific calming sound and vibration , physiological responses include: slowing the heart and respiration rate, digestion, muscle relaxation and a quiet mind.  You may have heard about toning the vagus nerve? When the ventral root of the vagus nerve is toned, REST, DIGEST and feeling SAFE prevails. Therapeutic Sound and vibration promote feelings of peace and ease, building resilience and supporting healthy participation in daily life.

The SSP©(Safe and Sound Protocol) is a research based therapy based on the Polyvagal Theory. It is a 5 day listening intervention that is designed to reduce stress and auditory sensitivities, supporting the relaxation response and improved social engagement. * Holly can now administer this protocol virtually /video call.
